Thank you for your article. It is specific and in-depth. In particular, the detailed breakdown of the driving factors is very helpful for modeling. I look forward to your future articles.
One thing I’ve always wondered about these ride hailing platforms is the rise of autonomous driving, what would a robo taxi fleet mean for them? Can a producer of EVs say like a Tesla or BYD easily set up a fleet as they can provide the fleet at low cost to their own ride hailing platform effectively out compete platforms like Uber and Didi who don’t own their own fleet of cars? Have u ever considered such a scenario?
Thanks for your comment Edwin. Indeed your question is quite often brought up by investors. First, call me lack of imagination, I don't think robo taxi is relevant in five years. Second, I feel like this question is not much different from asking whether DiDi has a moat. Recall several small players in China are indeed auto manufactures. So I think I already answered this question to some degree in my post. For me, DiDi provides infrastructure matching consumers and cars, irrespective of it's auto car or EV car.
I'm really impressed with the details and structure of this article. Thank you a lot for the effort!
